The role of Buyer/Planner has responsibility for all functions related to procurement, materials requirements planning, shop floor control, logistics, order management and inventory management. The Buyer/Planner’s primary objective is to acquire inbound materials on time and complete, from approved suppliers at competitive costs as required to support the operations. We are looking for a results-oriented candidate that is responsive to the needs of internal and external (suppliers) customers and a good fit with a high performance, high intensity, early-stage company.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Plan orders and procure materials to support production and MRO requirements
  • Negotiate favorable terms with vendors
  • Generate purchase requisitions, contact vendors, and examine quotes for accuracy
  • Assure that problems relating to delivery, quality or pricing are promptly conveyed to the vendor and resolved in a timely manner to support the business needs
  • Work with Accounts Payable to resolve and problems with vendors
  • Support the implementation of appropriate outsource services such as 3PL, warehousing, customer duties, etc.
  • Schedule/reschedule production on the assembly floor
  • Identify shortages and work with suppliers on material need dates to meet ship dates
  • Expedite/monitor/track work orders to know current status
  • Monitor and assure delivery and inventory performance objectives are met or exceeded
  • Picking kits (inventory components) for Work Order release to manufacturing
  • Maintain departmental compliance to FDA and ESO regulations
  • Maintain open communications and feedback mechanisms between departments, functions, and senior management
  • Manage departmental performance measures, including visibility systems and provides regular progress reports


Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred
  • Certificate in SCM (Supply Chain Management) preferred
  • 3 to 5 years related experience in material planning/procurement
  • Expandable (ERP System) experience preferred
  • Experience in Medical Device, Pharma, or Biotechnlogy industries
  • Experience in a highly regulated environment

Skill Requirements

  • Must have strong negotiation skills and extensive experience working with outside vendors
  • Must have good communications skills to work with various departments in the organization
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) as well as internet search tools
  • Experience using and implementing ERP systems is highly desirable
  • Extensive knowledge in analyzing and solving problems in a disciplined fashion, ensuring clear understanding of the root cause(s) and efficient recommendations for resolution
  • Must be self-motivated and able to multi-task, meet tight deadlines and prioritize changing demands in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
